Day Five - Chateau de Versailles
The Palace of Versailles is one of those “wow” moments! Originally built as a hunting lodge for Louis XIII, his son Louis XIV expanded and transformed it into the grand palace it is today. As we boarded the bus in the morning, we had know idea of the sheer magnitude and opulence that awaited us! The palace we were told has over 2,000 rooms, including the mind blowing Hall of Mirrors. The rooms we saw were richly decorated with paintings, sculptures and luxurious furnishings, the best of the best!
In addition to the palace, we explored the vast grounds which include gardens, fountains, statues, and ornamental lakes.
Versailles is also home to the Queens Hamlet. A bit of a walk, but I recommend you don’t miss the little village, it turned out to be our favorite part. You will be amazed how it sits in stark contrast to the palace.
We ended the day at Versailles with a delicious gelato cone sold on the grounds by a man with a little cart. Perfect!
