Day Four - The Marais and the Louvre
The Marais district is located in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris, on the Right Bank of the Seine River.
The Marais is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Paris, and it has a rich architectural and cultural heritage. The Marais offers a glimpse into Paris's elegant past, with the beautiful Church of Saint-Paul-Saint-Louise whose impressive dome and Delacroix painting are worth a visit.
The Marais has a Jewish quarter called the “Pletzel which in Yiddish means “little place”. We enjoyed a stroll down the Rue des Rosiers, “street of rosebushes” where we enjoyed a popular lunch of falafel.
The Louvre is one of the most famous museums in the world, located on the Right Bank of the Seine River, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. It is housed in a former royal palace and has a collection of over 35,000 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts.
The Louvre is perhaps best known for its iconic glass pyramid, which serves as the main entrance to the museum. Inside the most popular attraction is of course the Mona Lisa! We also enjoyed another da Vinci painting, St John the Baptist. If you look close in the dark background you can see that he is holding a cross while pointing up toward heaven. We could have spent hours exploring the museum's galleries, they are a treasure trove of art and history.
